Jeremy Côté

The question: How do little changes lead to big changes?

The jargon: Phase transitions, optimization problems, statistical physics, quantum physics, and computer science.

Projects

Since 2016
I write monthly essays on my blog that explore physics, mathematics, and being a scientist. I also write smaller pieces that touch on various aspects of research.
Since 2018
I publish three comics a week on my webcomic Handwaving, which showcases the humour of being a physicist. I’ve been drawing this webcomic since 2018, and it is one of my favourite ways of communicating science. (Currently doing one per week until I finish my PhD.)
Since 2023
I write a newsletter called Charting Progress, which seeks to illuminate invisible infrastructure that powers our world, as well as track the progress we need to make to create a better world.

Volunteering

Since 2022
I coach basketball and cross-country running at my local secondary school.
Since 2023
I podcast with the Carbon Almanac Network. I’ve hosted podcast episodes on running, data, and comics, all within the scope of the environment and sustainability.
In 2023
I coached the U16 boy’s soccer team in my local town.
